Maryam Mirzakhani from Stanford, the first and to-date only female winner
of the Fields Medal died on July 14 after a long battle with cancer.
Maryam Mirzakhani, who wrote her PhD dissertation at the Harvard mathematics
department in 2004 under the guidance of Curtis McMullen.
Her mathematical work is in the interplay between dynamical systems theory
and geometry.
A memorial for Maryam Mirzakhani will be held on Sunday, August 13, from 5 to 7pm,
